How to Care for Hair Extensions in Dubai & Abu Dhabi
The longevity and appearance of your extensions depends significantly on how you care for them between salon visits. • Brush correctly and consistently. Use a soft-bristle extension brush or a loop brush, always starting from the ends and working upward toward the attachment points. Never drag a brush from root to tip. Brush your hair at least twice daily and always before washing.
• Wash with care, not frequency. Extensions do not need to be washed as often as natural hair, and over-washing accelerates bond loosening. Aim for 2 to 3 washes per week maximum, using a sulphate-free, extension-safe shampoo. Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only, keeping it well clear of the attachment points.
• Protect against UAE heat. Always apply a heat protectant before using straighteners, curling wands, or blow-dryers. Keep styling tool temperatures below 180°C on extension hair where possible. When outdoors, consider a UV-protective hair product — the UAE sun will fade and dry extension hair just as it does natural hair.
• Manage chlorine and saltwater exposure. Tie hair in a braid or bun before swimming. If your hair does get wet in a pool or the sea, rinse it immediately with fresh water and apply a leave-in conditioner. Prolonged exposure to chlorine particularly weakens tape bonds and dries extension hair.
• Sleep with your hair secured. Braid your hair loosely or tie it in a loose knot at the nape of the neck before sleeping. This prevents matting and tangling overnight — a common cause of extension damage that is entirely preventable.detection and the risk of matting.
